What's going on...
To continue to support schools to deliver high quality PE and School sport through a coordinated local delivery system, ensuring via collaborative partnering, that local needs are met and the greatest benefit is felt by all children and young people. We will work with secondary schools and their primary feeder schools to enhance the quality of sporting opportunities through the curriculum, Out of School Hours Learning, intra- and inter- school competition and developing the young volunteers of the future.
The Sainsbury’s School Games is the Government’s initiative for school sport and is their strategic priority to increase the number of young people participating in competition and provide a lasting legacy for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. The Schools Games are funded by DCMS, DoH, DfE and Sport England Lottery Funding, with outcomes across School, Health and Sport. Sainsbury’s are now the official sponsor for the Games.
During the academic year 2012/13 the School Sports Partnership will continue to offer Bikeability to all schools in the Leighton Linslade SSP area. A child will typically start Bikeability lessons once they have learnt to ride a bike in School Year 3/4, with School Year 5/6/7 progressing through to Level 2, and then at Level 3 at School Year 8/9. So far over 2,500 young cyclists have been trained in partnership with Cycle 4 Life, the partnerships recognised training providers.
In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision.
Funding will be allocated to all maintained and state-funded schools with primary phase pupils, including: primary, middle, special and non-maintained special schools, academies and pupil referral units from 1 September 2013. Additional information
